Ubuntu Tablets And Smartphones Yesterday, Canonical announced the arrival of Ubuntu OS for tablets, just days after releasing the Ubuntu version for smart phones. Canonical expects to provide consumers with total Ubuntu experience combining tablets phones, computers and TVs altogether.

An exclusive preview for developers showcased the new OS running only the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10 tablets for now. The tablets will go for sale on the same day the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 4 running Ubuntu hit the market. Ubuntu’s tablet version can support displays sized ranged from 6 inches to 20 inches and provide resolution from 100 ppi to 450 ppi.

Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Canonical stated that Ubuntu’s new smart phone and tablet version is very similar to the Android OS and called for the Android app developers for making contribution to Ubuntu. Shuttleworth also said that both the tablet and the smart phone OS are built following similar patterns and codes. This’ll provide ease both the consumers and the app developers on their parts. Bringing phones, tablets, computers and TVs on a single platform and creating a revolutionary fusion of entertainment and work, that is what Ubuntu aims to achieve here, said Shuttleworth.

The developing process of both the OS is now at the initial stage. The smartphone experience is expected to come with Ubuntu 13.10 and the tablet experience, with Ubuntu 14.04.
