Facebook Lifts Ban on Content Featuring Graphic Violence

Much to the surprise of millions of users, Facebook Inc. has lifted the temporary ban imposed on beheading videos earlier this year. Users can now post and share decapitation content on one of the most popular social networking websites of the world as long as they are intended to be condemned, as per a report of BBC on Monday.

In a statement, Mark Zuckerberg’s company expressed that the websites allows its users to share their real life experiences as well as controversial events and the purpose behind that is to create awareness in the society. However, Facebook made it clear that it will not tolerate any violent content that is posted with an intention of celebration.

A number of analysts have criticized Facebook’s move, especially because violent content will be shown without any prior-warning. However, the social networking website mentioned that it is working to develop ways to allow users to filter the sort of content they wish to see, including advance warnings.

As per the BBC report, a number of users were not happy that the video of a masked man killing a woman in Mexico was posted on Facebook.

UK’s Prime Minister, David Cameron, also criticized Facebook’s move via his Twitter account.
