Amazon Tablet May Arrive Late 2011

amazon tabletAmazon is possibly to enter the tablet market very soon, and this is a place where very limited companies other than Apple have been able to gain footing.

The online e-commerce giant has placed a large order with Taiwan-based notebook manufacturer Quanta Computer for making tablet devices that employ display technology from another Taiwan-based company, E Ink Holdings.

A news site unveils sources at companies supplying machinery to Quanta discovered that Quanta is anticipated to start shipping as soon as the second half of 2011, with unit volume projected at 700,000 to 800,000 at the peak season.

Quanta already making tablets for RIM and is possibly to manufacture them for Sony and also for Lenovo. Experts suggests Amazon is planning to step forward in tablet manufacturing since the popularity of its Kindle e-reader is only limited to North America and Europe.

Amazon’s tablet will almost surely count on Google’s open source Android operating system. In March, Amazon has opened its own Android app store and launched a service known as CloudDrive, to offer online file storage.
