PlayStation Network Hacks May Cost Sony Over $170 Million

Sony today announced a earning statement where it states that the expenses due to the recent PlayStation Network attacks and successive outages may go up to more than $170 million as reported for Sony’s fiscal year ending in March 2012. That’s far-off high than original analyst estimates in the tens of millions.

a company representative says, “Based on information currently available to Sony, our currently known costs associated with the unauthorized network access are estimated to be approximately 14 billion yen in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012.”

Sony’s fiscal year 2011 shall end next week and, as per the news sources the company is estimated to report a yearly loss of $3.2 billion.

Some other news sources claimed, Sony’s music business, BMG, too had its Greek website hacked few days ago on May 5th, therefore the personal information for more than 8,300 user accounts has been revealed so far.
