Apple iPad 3 To Get A Second Manufacturer

Apple is planning to add an additional manufacturer for its iPad 3 launch this year, as per a report published in DigiTimes.

Some industry sources in Taiwan confirm the prospective candidates for the job are Taiwan-based Quanta Computer and Petagron Technology. The sources mention Petagron as more probable to win the bid as it has already secured iPhone 5 orders from Apple.

After an explosion took place on May 20 at Foxconn’s Chengdu, China factory leaves three dead and 15 injured, Apple was forced to reduce manufacturing risk by seeking an additional contractor.

The new iPad might be coming with a double-resolution screen of 2048*1536 pixels, which will make the device a so-called “iPad HD.” The information acquired by our reporters of Tech Gadgets Web from last week suggests that such a device may be dubbed as “iPad 2 Plus.” It claims that component manufacturers located aboard have already received requests-for-quotes from Apple for a new high-end iPad model with a superior pixel density display.

The new iPad is also likely to be thinner and lighter.
