Instant Pages, VPN Support Added To Chromebooks

Chrome OSGoogle release a new version of its browser-based operating system – Chrome OS, some of the prominent changes in the new version are: limited support for VPNs, Netflix streaming, Citrix Receiver support, and 802.1x secure Wi-Fi. The new stable release – Chrome 13 for Chromebooks will be available this week. Chrome 13 also includes the latest feature of the Google Search known as “Instant Pages”, which allows instant loading of pages while searching to save the time. The other major addition in the new version is Citrix Receiver, it is basically a Chrome add-on that allows the users to access Windows Apps and Desktops on the web, thus changes the Windows Apps and Desktops into a Web app. Google also made a change in Chrome OS file manager that will automatically delete your files, if your system is running low on free storage space. According to the officialannouncement, following are the highlights of the latest release:

  • Supports new Chrome 13 functionality
  • Google Cloud Print settings added to Settings > Under the Hood
  • Allow auto-connect using 3G
  • Remove/forget added VPN connections
  • L2TP IPSec with pre-shared key support
  • More SSH options in crosh
  • 802.1x support
  • Allow USB mounting of Android

  • Security updates
