AMD Plans To Expand Market Share

AMD will come out with their new design and use it with low pricing strategy to capture bigger market share. Their basic aim is to recapture the market share from the giant rival Intel Corporation. The California based company will start selling chips based on the new design and they will be priced between $125 and $1019 per chip.

The company has got plans to reverse the point slide by 20 percentage points in market share since the year 2006. The company’s market share stood at 5.2 percent at the end of the third quarter and the rest is controlled by giant Intel.

The chips has been designed in such a way and priced in such a manner that their performance level will be 55% more than that of Intel. Both the companies are trying to chase the customers for the servers that are known for running data centers. This includes companies like Google Inc, Facebook Inc. The new AMD chips are expected to draw 5 watts per processing core and that can be considered ideal for the market.

  1. 2012 will be year of AMD Bulldozer as the updated micro-architectures come out.

I expect a jump in their server sales, these processors are a no brainer for VMWare or Microsoft virtualization projects!

Meanwhile, those of us who bought the ASUS KGPE-D16 dual socket G34 motherboard can upgrade to the Opteron 6272 without any hassle at all. http://www.epinions.com/content_553298202244
