Philippines Police Arrested 4 Over Phone Scam

Philippines Police Arrests Phone ScammersPhilippines Police in collaboration with the US FBI have arrested 4 people over a phone scam of premium-line targeting US telecom giant AT&T’s customers to transfer money to an Arab militant group illegally.

The 4 arrested in Manila were being paid by the militant group which has been accused by the FBI  for the Mumbai Attack on November 2008, as reported by the Criminal Investigation & Detection Group (CIDG) of Philippines.

The cyber crime resulted in AT&T’s $2m (£1.3) losses, said CIDG.

Philippines police revealed that the money gained from the hack was transferred to bank accounts of the Saudi-based militant group that is not identified yet. Meanwhile, India has blamed Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based militant group for the planning of the gruesome attacks in Mumbai taking a heavy toll of lives that accounts for 166 people.

Jenny Shearer, a FBI spokesman, said hackers primarily targeted the customers of AT&T instead of the company itself.
