The Witcher 2 Game Review — Action RPG

The Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings enhanced edition for Xbox 360 is a port of the immensely popular PC action role playing game released in May 2011 which is based on book series of the same name written by Andrzej Sapkowski. In Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings players follow the exploits of Witcher (professional monster slayer) named Geralt of Rivia. The Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings is unlike other games in the same genre as it is targeted at an adult audience and contains explicit sex scenes and intense violence.  There is plenty of swearing and usage of crude language in the game as well. It forces the player to think and keeps them on their toes whether they are fighting monsters or playing through quests, the game does not hold your hand and compels you to do some innovative thinking.

Game Outlook

With Witcher 2 for Xbox 360, the developers CD Projekt Red did not compromise the quality or content of the game. Everything found on the PC version is there, in fact, it contains 4 hours of extra content. Witcher 2 boasts of amazing visuals, the environments are extremely detailed and well crafted, character models are beautifully made and animation is also really well done. It is amongst the best looking games of 2012.

The Witcher 2 has an amazing and incredibly deep story which is exceptionally immersive and truly nonlinear. There are usually multiple ways to approach the situation and the outcome can change dynamically based on the decision taken, choices made by the players have far reaching consequences ensuring multiple play through.

Game Mechanics

The combat in Witcher 2 is fairly challenging and exhilarating as you just can’t make your way through the game by simply hacking and slashing. It requires you to prepare in advance and take some additional time to make and consume health potions and create bombs to be used in upcoming confrontation. Like other games in the genre, healing items and potions are not available during combat making it a strategic affair.

Quests in Witcher 2 are expertly designed; the main plots as well as the side missions are well written and hugely entertaining. Apart from combat and playing through quests, there are a variety of diverse activities for the player to take part in like arm wrestling, brawling, playing dice and visiting brothel for some ploughing (sex), there is plenty to do to keep one busy.

If compared to its PC counterpart, Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings does suffer from some minor technical issues like screen tearing and minor texture, pop-ins but it is still one of the best looking games available on this generation of consoles. Overall Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings is a must play game for any fan of RPG’s or for people who enjoy story driven games in general.
