We already knew that there was a patent war going on between Motorola Mobility and Microsoft and the recent media report suggests that this leading smartphone maker has won the latest round against Microsoft in on the patent dispute that has spanned several jurisdictions across a number of countries.
The Mannheim Regional Court in Germany gave a ruling Wednesday that Microsoft’s Windows 7, Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, along with Xbox products have violated Motorola patents regarding video compression.
According to the ruling Motorola now has the right to appeal for ban on the importation and retailing of those products in Germany. Since German market contributes billions of dollars to Microsoft, hence this is a big blow to the tech giant for sure. But, a judge dealing with a related case in U.S. District Court in Seattle earlier ordered Motorola not to ask for such a ban until the U.S. case is resolved.
Though Microsoft spokesperson stated that, in spite of the ruling, it’s business as usual in Germany.
