Cricket Wireless iPhone: No Contract Plan From June 22

Cricket Wireless iPhoneCricket Wireless is the first wireless provider to give no contract plans for iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. This comes with a catch. You need to buy the iPhone 4S hardware for $500, $150 less than Apple’s offering of unlocked phones. The cheapest option comes in with $400 iPhone 4. You could now end up saving $1200 over a period of two years when you get the iPhone from Cricket Wireless. Unlike other service providers which provide the iPhone 4S for $199 with high cost data plans, Cricket iPhone will cost you $500 for the device but a $55 plan which is almost half of what you pay for monthly data plans in other carriers.

The disadvantage is that, the Cricket iPhone cannot be used on other networks unlike Apple’s offering of unlocked phones with which you can use on AT&T and Verizon. Another disadvantage is that, Cricket is a regional wireless network service that isn’t available in many locations. Yes, even big cities like New York are not in the coverage. So this might be a lucky option for those in more rural areas with good Cricket network coverage.

The $55 data plan per month will give you unlimited text and unlimited voice. Unlimited data upto 2.3 GB[Reduced Speeds after that]. Now its becoming a common practice to sell iPhones with a prepaid service, a move started by Cricket and followed by Virgin Mobiles which actually has a better data plan for as low as $30 per month.

The iPhones will be available at the cricket stores and at their online website – mycricket.com/iphone, starting from June 22. This actually opens up the competition in many ways and users do get a variety of options to choose from depending on their requirements. But still, Cricket is not a worthy option when you consider the network coverage and also compare it with Virgin Mobile’s data plans.
