Facebook explained the attack via a blog post saying that for work related purposes some company employees were visiting a mobile application developer site which was infected and was hosting a malware that gained access to the employee computers. Updated anti-virus software detected the bug. Immediately, all the compromised machines were logged out, law enforcement was informed and Facebook has launched a deep investigation. The malware was disinfected before gaining access to user data.

The malware was uncovered after a suspicious domain in the corporate DNS logs was flagged by Facebook’s security team. The domain was tracked back to a company computer. Further examinations revealed the malware, prompting a widespread search and more malicious files were found.

The malware utilized a zero-day exploit system for bypassing the Java sandbox and later installed itself. Facebook has notified Oracle about the exploit and Oracle has confirmed Facebook’s findings and supplied a patch for further solution.

Facebook said that recently, several unnamed companies also experienced attacks leaving similar patterns. The company also said that it looks forward to join forces with the other victims and launch an informal investigation team.

According to Twitter officials the engineers detected some unusual patterns and investigated it. Later they found a live attack and were able to terminate the bug. But there’s a good possibility that the hackers gained access again and stole personal data like usernames, session tokens encrypted or salted passwords, photos, credit card information, e-mail addresses and other stuffs of the same kind.

In a blog statement Twitter said that they would reset passwords for every accounts hacked and rescind their session tokens. An e-mail would be sent to every victim explaining the urgency and the reason to reset their passwords.

Twitter claimed that the attack was committed by experts and the incident must not be taken lightly. They believe several firms were hacked in the same way recently and they wanted to go public with this attack.

Twitter has taken this opportunity to again warn the users to maintain their passwords carefully. Twitter urged the users to choose passwords at least 10 character long containing numbers and symbols. They also asked the subscribers to stop using the same passwords in several websites.

With the ‘instant video- recording- sharing’ option, iPhone and iPad consumers from now on will be able to capture short video clips and share them online using this single app. This video update option came out a few days after Facebook’s rival; Twitter launched its video sharing application dubbed ‘Vine’.

Also,when you have a lot to say, this app allows you to record an audio clip and send it with your text messages. Earlier this January, Facebook introduced voice messaging service attached with its messenger app for both the iOS and Android OS.

Recently, the Facebook app grabbed the ‘most used app spot’ from Google Maps in the U.S accounting the number of unique visitors. The social networking application left Google Maps behind when the mapping app was removed from iOS 6. Facebook continued the top position through the year end with 85.5 million visitors in December alone.

Reset of passwords included high profile accounts such as, BBC, TechCrunch. Source or cause of this compromise is yet to be discovered. The volume of the issue is also not disclosed by the micro blogging site, Twitter.

Twitter, in a statement said that: “A password is reset, when we think that an account has been compromised and let the account owner know via email alongside the information on how to create a new password. The process is a routine task to help protect our users”

The statement further acknowledged that, “We have unintentionally reset passwords of a large number of accounts that were actually not been compromised and we apologize for any inconvenience or confusion caused by this mishap.”

Today the App “Facebook 5 for iOS” was released on the App store. And this new application has met all the demands of the previous versions. Although, the new app looks like the same but now it’s a lot faster than the previous one. The new app includes features like scrolling in the news feed and watching photos in the home page.

When you scroll down in the news feed all the friends stories come faster than it used to before. You get to know the new stories shown by a banner and you can also knock once to see the most recent updates. These facilities are provided in the new app confirmed by Mr. Mick johnson, the iOS project manager in a blog post update.

Even already registered users have 4.8% duplicate accounts. Some profiles are created for businesses or for their pets which is about 2.4% and some of them are classified as undesirable. These are in violation of Facebook rules.

According to Facebook, duplicate accounts are those accounts which are not monitored by the actual person or impersonated by someone else.  It is also seen that many of the users has such account along with his personal account. Some users create their accounts for their fan pages, business or for his organization.

Some are using accounts by using fake name and these accounts are making spam which violets Facebook’s terms and services.

A BBC investigation is done in last month on this fact and it is seen that in developing countries like Indonesia, Bangladesh Facebook is enjoying fast growth. Taking this into concern Facebook is giving their attention to this fact.

Twitter has a lot of cash of their own; the company is expected to earn more than three hundred billion dollars only from advertising sales. The chief executive of Twitter said that he is just not into IPO, he does not worry about it much rather he prefers to wait for the company to speak up for itself. He believes any company can become public on its own terms if the people behind it have faith on it. However, an apple investment would strengthen the relationship between two companies which can be fruitful in future for both companies.
