Blackberry offers BBM for iPhone and Android Devices

BlackBerry has started to make its popular messaging service, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), available for iPhone and Android devices in phases.

The cross-platform offering has been long-awaited by smartphone users all across the glove. The BBM service was expected to be made available for a few other smartphones in September but it was delayed due to a few problems. However, the service is now being rolled out to other platforms.

Andrew Bocking, who is the head of the BlackBerry’s BBM service, expressed in a blog post on the company’s website that BBM has been one of the most popular messaging services and taking into account the ever-increasing demand of other smartphone users, BlackBerry has decided to rollout the app to other platforms.

BlackBerry revealed earlier this month that approximately six million iPhone and Android users have pre-registered for BBM service.

Customers, who signed up for the service at www.BBM.com, can immediately access the service; whereas, new users will have to sign up for the service.

Over the years, BlackBerry has retained a huge user-base, despite the fact that it has faced intense competition from Apple and Android devices. It remains to be seen if BBM is equally effective and enjoyable on other smartphones as it is on BlackBerry.
