Multiple Social Media Accounts of CNN Targeted by Syrian Hackers

Multiple social media accounts and blogs of Cable News Network (CNN) were hacked by a group of hackers naming itself as the Syrian Electric Army (SEA).

CNN has admitted that its Facebook and Twitter accounts were hacked. The media giant claims to have regained control of the hacked accounts but not before the hackers posted some content on those platform.

The SEA supports the regime of Bashar al-Asad and expressed through a tweet that it has targeted CNN after false reporting of the globally popular television channel about the Syrian crises.

The US government is not in favor of the Asad regime in Syria and wants the President to resign, taking into account the ongoing civil war in the country.

It needs to be mentioned that this is not the first time that SEA has targeted any high-profile social media account as Microsoft’s Skype faced similar attacks at the start of this year. SEA believed that Microsoft was selling data to the US government. SEA wants media groups to immediately stop their negative propaganda about Asad.

A former US National Security Agency contractor, Edward Snowden got gained international fame for disclosing that many internet companies provide sensitive user data to the agency.
