Amazon Increases the Subscription Charges of Prime Membership to $99

Amazon, one of the leading online retail stores of the world, has become more expensive, as the price of the Prime Membership has been raised from $79 to $99; whereas, the student version of the deal will now be available at $49.

The Prime Membership is an annual subscription through which online shoppers get to buy all sorts of products, from home appliances to goods of office use and clothing, with absolutely free two-day shipping on select items. Some of the other features of this membership are access to Kindle Owners’ Lending Library for borrowing books and Amazon Instant Video, where you can stream and watch thousands of videos.

The news of this price hike has already had an impact on the stock exchange, with the prices of Amazon’s share rising two percent in pre-market trading.

Having witnessed a massive increase in its shipping costs in the last quarter of 2013, the online retail giant had hinted at increasing the price of the Prime Membership earlier this year. As per the claims of Amazon, its shipping cost during the fourth quarter of the last year had exceeded $1.2 billion.

Let’s wait and see what sort of an impact this price hike will have on Amazon users, who are found in abundance in the US.
