Apple’s Working on a High-Profile Fitness App

Apple is reported to be working on a fitness tracking application called Healthbook, which is likely to be a part of iOS 8, and will possess sections that keep a check on heart rate, hydration, blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, sleep, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, nutrition and a lot more.

Already, there are numerous fitness tracking apps in the market, gaining a lot of popularity, with people getting more conscious about their health. As per a report of the NPD Group, the fitness tracking business generated sales of approximately $330 million.

The Cupertino-based company has the potential to gather greater data regarding a user’s health, which makes me believe that Healthbook will leave behind its competitors.

Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac feels that crucial information such as steps walked and calories burned will be tracked by iPhone’s M7 coprocessor. Healthbook may also take help from some other apps to collect data.

You should not be surprised if Apple launches a smartwatch to obtain more information about a user’s health, especially for times when users do not have an iPhone in their hand. There have been rumors about iWatch for a long time now but the technology may just materialize by the end of this year.
