Recent buzz from Game Informer’s April issue already indicated that Steam and Valve games are coming for the Mac platform. Valve is a recognised as a giant in the market of digital games distribution on PC through its Steam service and publishing existing set of popular games on Apple Mac platform has made them glow even more bright.

Valve, the video game developer and distributor has announced that it will bring its game distribution service Steam and gaming engine Source to the Mac platform. Some of the existing Valve and Steam games like Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal and the Half-life series would be available through Stream for Mac in April. With the help of Steam works for Mac suite, Valve aims to release all future games simultaneously on Windows, Mac and Xbox 360 platforms. So, be ready they may even come up with games for iPhone and iPad.

Valve’s first game Portal 2 that would be released on PC and Mac platform simultaneously and won’t require any sort of emulation software. Additionally, Steam is Valve’s digital delivery system for games has added a feather to the cap by a feature called Steam Play, which comes hand in hand. This lets you to purchase the game on one platform (PC or Mac) and play on the other free of charge and both PC and Mac based gamers can join and play in the same multiplayer environment.

Valve’s Jason Holtman explained how Steam Play and Steam Cloud work. “For instance, Steam Play, in combination with the Steam Cloud, allows a gamer playing on their work PC to go home and pick up playing the same game at the same point on their home Mac. We expect most developers and publishers to take advantage of Steam Play”. This means that, if a game is purchased for PC then Steam Play with Steam Cloud will allow playing the same game from the same point on Mac system without purchasing it again

So, the Valve, Steam, games on Mac coming on April. All that’s left now is the hardest part: Keep your fingers crossed and keep waiting.
