Qualcomm Plans To Create Separate Division For Protecting Patent Portfolios

QUALCOMMQualcomm has unveiled their plan to protect essential patents from any lawsuits of other companies. Recent patent battle between some giant companies like Apple and Samsung has made companies to rethink their strategy to protect important patents that were used to create some of their most valuable product. Qualcomm has said that they would open a separate division for their chip business. According to this new structure the parent company will look after patent portfolio and technology licensing. And the subsidiary company named Qualcomm Technologies Inc will look after research and development along with semiconductor business.

The company chief executive Paul E. Jacobs said that this move is not a response of a third party claim or a part of spinning off chip business rather this will provide greater protection for their patent portfolios. Qualcomm has popularized one of the biggest contribution for cell phone business, the code-division multiple access, or CDMA.
